Questions?
Yes, but I'm looking for someone who complements me—someone smarter than me, who covers my weaknesses (I'll admit, I'm really shitty with finance stuff), and who's passionate about the vision. I'm adaptable, so if you're out there, say hi!
How far along are you?
I've launched the landing page, completed unbiased feedback gathering to validate the problem, and am targeting communities, friends, and family for further validation. I have a marketing idea to speed up the process, but for now, it's bootstrapped. This teaser page and pitch deck are ready, and I've spoken to industry experts and investors who may be interested in funding. The MVP is halfway done.
How long have you been working on this?
I came up with the idea in the third week of February, and the MVP is already halfway through.
How much of that has been full-time?
Pretty much full-time, but I'm considering part-time consulting to sustain myself. If funding comes in, it will speed things up. Plan B is to work part-time while bootstrapping the launch.
Why did you choose this idea?
I've been thinking about this problem for years. As a single person, it's obviously personal.
Do you have domain expertise?
I have 15 years of experience in product building, web development, and tech team management. 80% of that is in marketing—growth hacking, product marketing, and demand generation. I consider myself a gamer first, a marketer second, and a technologist.
Who are your competitors?
Matchmaking apps.
What do you understand about your business that they don't?
Match Group (which owns Tinder, OkCupid, and other matchmaking apps) is designed to keep users single and frustrated. A dating app should actually help people find relationships that align with their goals.
How do (or will) you make money?
The monetization model makes sense—it's designed to help users improve their dating experience rather than charging them to fix a broken system.
